Noida woman 'dowry' death: Accused husband still absconding, kin refuse to take body for last rites
BHOPAL: The family of a 33-year-old woman found dead in Bhopal earlier this week staged a protest outside chief minister Mohan Yadav’s residence on Sunday, demanding a fresh post-mortem examination at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi.
Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate allegations of dowry harassment against the woman’s husband, a lawyer and his mother, a former judge.
Twisha Sharma, who was from Noida, was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12, according to news agency PTI.
The autopsy report of the deceased conducted at AIIMS, Bhopal, says that she died because of hanging but also points out the presence of simple injury marks at some places on her body.
The family of the deceased has refused to take her body for last rites and insists on taking the body to AIIMS, Delhi, for a repeat autopsy.

Police said Twisha met the accused through a dating app in 2024 and married him in December 2025.
Her family has accused both of them of murder.
During Sunday’s protest outside the chief minister’s official residence, the family demanded a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi.
The family said Twisha’s body had remained in the mortuary of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal for the past five days.
Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma and her brother said officials from the chief minister’s office assured them of fair action after meeting them during the protest
Navnidhi Sharma also demanded that legal proceedings in the case be shifted outside Madhya Pradesh. Relatives told police that Twisha had wanted to leave Bhopal and return to Noida.
They also said she remained in contact with family members until around 10pm on Tuesday, shortly before her death.
Assistant commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap, who is heading the SIT, had earlier said that a case had been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to dowry death and harassment against Samarth Singh and his mother.
He said efforts had been intensified to trace and arrest the accused.
Officials said the SIT would investigate allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault and attempts to destroy evidence after Twisha’s death.
An FIR was registered in the case belatedly on Friday against the former judge and her son. However, the retired judge got an anticipatory bail from a sessions court the same evening and the anticipatory bail application of her son will come up for hearing on Monday.
In the police records, he is absconding as of now.
