Bhubaneswar: The murder case of former minister Naba Kisore Das will undergo a comprehensive re-examination, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Wednesday following appeals from the deceased's family for a CBI investigation.
Naba's wife, Minati, son Bishal, and daughter, Dipali, a former MLA, met the CM at his office in Lok Seva Bhawan and submitted a request letter pressing for a CBI probe into the Jan 29, 2023 murder, which was probed by the crime branch of Odisha police.
Describing the crime as "extremely tragic and condemnable", Majhi told the family that the govt will ensure that justice is served, and the true culprit is identified and punished according to the law, a statement issued by the CMO said.
Naba was shot dead by on-duty ASI Gopal Das, who has been in custody ever since the crime. The CM urged Minati to cooperate with the investigating agency and extended an open invitation for future consultations regarding the case's progress.
Speaking to the media after meeting the CM, Dipali expressed gratitude for his personal attention to the case and his commitment to ensuring justice. Dipali told reporters that the CM assured them of a fair investigation. She expressed the family's confidence in his commitment. "The CM gave us confidence that there will be a fair probe," Dipali said.
Earlier in the day, a two-member team conducted enquiries relating to the crime for the second consecutive day in Jharsuguda, the family's native place. The investigating team recorded the statement of Minati at their Sarbahal residence. On Tuesday, the statements of Bishal and Dipali were recorded.
"We recorded Minati's statement and will verify the provided information," said ASP (crime branch) Vijay Mallick. The crime branch team also visited the Veer Surendra Sai Airport and the district headquarters hospital to collect crucial information about aircraft timings and medical treatment details provided to Naba.
Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Tuesday said the govt would continue further probe by the crime branch to find out the possible conspirators and their accomplices in the crime.
