Cyclone Dana live: Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi says,

"Odisha is safe now. After the landfall of the cyclone, I reviewed the situation, and due to teamwork, we achieved zero casualties. We had evacuated 8 lakh people. Many relief centres are still open. Restoration of electric wires is going on. We are facing problems due to continuous rain. Crops of 1.75 lakhs hector have been damaged. Budhabalanga River is flooded but it is flowing below danger level."

Flight operations at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport resumed at 8 am on Friday after being suspended since Thursday evening due to Cyclone Dana. The first departing flight was IndiGo's Kolkata-Imphal route, while Vistara's Delhi-Kolkata flight was the first to land at 8:45 am. Authorities had initially planned to restart operations at 9 am but resumed earlier due to favourable weather conditions.

Train services on the south section of the Sealdah Division under Eastern Railway also restarted at 10 am. Heavy rains and gusty winds hit parts of southern West Bengal, while the cyclone continued impacting Odisha's coastline. Over 170 express and passenger trains were cancelled by South Eastern Railway, and 68 suburban trains on the Howrah division were suspended on Friday morning.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that one person died in the state in cyclone Dana. The state administration evacuated approximately 2.16 lakh people from low-lying areas.

It said, polar orbiting satellite EOS-06 and geostationary satellite INSAT-3DR are regularly providing valuable information on the cyclone status.

"Cyclonic Storm 'DANA' is approaching the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. ISRO's EOS-06 and INSAT-3DR satellites have been tracking the storm since October 20, providing real-time data to aid disaster management efforts," the national space agency said in a post on 'X'.

It said, aiding early detection, EOS-06 detected ocean wind patterns, offering valuable lead time for safety measures, while providing continuous updates INSAT-3DR delivers real-time cloud data, helping authorities make informed decisions.

Authorities in Odisha and West Bengal evacuated lakhs of people, shut schools, cancelled more than 400 trains and suspended flight operations as they braced for severe cyclonic storm Dana, which is expected to make landfall in Odisha past midnight at a speed of 120 kmph.
