Odisha: Silver coating of Singhadwar during Rath, says Sri Jagannath temple administration

BHUBANESWAR: The silver coating of Singhadwar, the main entrance of the Jagannath Temple in Puri, and repair of Ratna Palanka (bed) of the sibling deities will be taken up during the Rath Yatra. It was decided by the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) at a crucial meeting on Saturday.
Discussions were held on two important matters relating to the repair of Ratna Palanka (bed) of the deities and silver cladding of Singhadwar, the lions gate of the shrine.“During Rath Yatra, when the deities will go on their annual sojourn to their aunt’s house the repair will be completed,” said Ranjan Das, the chief administrator of SJTA.
The temple administration will seek necessary permission from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the silver coating A donor has consented to provide the required silver for the plating. During the work, devotees will be allowed to visit the temple through the North Gate, he added.
A member of the technical experts’ committee, N C Pal, said, “A temporary door will be built to replace the original gate of the Singhadwar during the silver platting. The work will be done under CCTV surveillance and in the presence of police.”
