Chandigarh:
Haryana received 143% above normal precipitation, while
Punjab recorded 136% more rainfall than the normal average in the month of May. The hill state of Himachal Pradesh received 19% above normal rainfall. As per the meteorological department, Haryana received 108.6 mm
rain, Punjab 127.9 mm and Himachal Pradesh 287 mm.
The entire north-west region of the country, except Union territory of
Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed above normal precipitation in May, stated the meteorological department.
The maximum temperature in the region had been recorded markedly below normal in the month of May. On Wednesday, the highest maximum temperature in Punjab was recorded at 28.2 degree Celsius at Samrala which was 14.1 degree Celsius below normal. Gurdaspur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.9 degree Celsius, which was 3.6 degree Celsius below normal. Similarly, the highest maximum temperature of 31.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Gurgaon in Haryana on Wednesday, which was 13.3 degree Celsius below normal. Hisar recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.4 degree Celsius – 4.9 Celsius below normal.
