Cultural clash over reels ends in double suicide

Chandigarh: A Panipat couple has committed suicide after allegedly enduring months of harassment and intimidation by their "reel-obsessed" daughter-in-law and her family.Rajesh, 46, and Suman, 44, were found unconscious in their Nara village home on May 9 and moved to a Rohtak hospital, where they died on Sunday. Police have since booked four individuals — the couple's daughter-in-law, Sneha, her sister, and her parents — for abetment to suicide. All four suspects have reportedly gone into hiding.The tragedy reportedly stems from a "love marriage" that soured over cultural and lifestyle differences. Living in a traditional village setting, Rajesh and Suman had frequently clashed with Sneha over her choice of attire and her frequent filming of social media "reels".The couple's family alleged that these domestic disagreements had escalated into a broader campaign of bullying.
