‘Drunk’ cop hits two scooterists

Times News NetworkChandigarh: A head constable of UT police posted with Chandigarh MC enforcement team allegedly rammed his car into two scooterists, leaving one of them grievously injured, in Manimajra late on Thursday night.The first to be hit was Kuldeep Chand, who was driving his scooter behind the Manimajra civil hospital at around 10:30pm. The accused cop, who was in a car, rammed into him, knocking him down on the road. Kuldeep suffered fractures in his hands and legs while the accused fled from the spot. He had not gone far when he allegedly rammed into another scooterist at Mori Gate Bazaar. The second scooterist escaped with minor injuries.Thereafter, passersby surrounded the cop and informed the Manimajra police. They also expressed suspicion of the accused being drunk. Police reached the spot and took the accused into custody. The injured were admitted in the Manimajra hospital.Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, Jai Pal, had recently returned to work after psychiatric treatment at GMCH-32. The SSP has sought a detailed report of the incident.
