The couple got married in November 2003 and four days later Jaspreet left for US along with his parents.
Sources said Jaspreet had sent a visa and other documents for his wife Parneet, but she failed to go abroad. In the meanwhile, she disappeared under mysterious circumstances from her house in Sector 33.
Interestingly, her mother Harjeet Kaur had lodged a case at Sector 34 police station that her daughter had been abducted, but during investigation cops had discovered that she had eloped with her boyfriend.
A senior police official said when Jaspreet Singh came to know about the elopement of his wife, he had filed a divorce suit in USA and was granted one-sided divorce. And after sending the divorce papers, he got remarried.
The forensic examination of the documents also revealed these were genuine. The matter was investigated by the crime branch and a cancellation report was sent to district court.
However, as the complainant refused to accept the cancellation report, the case was sent back for re-investigation, and this time, too, cops found no evidence against the accused personnel.
