CHANDIGARH: After an inquiry conducted into the alleged assault on a security guard, Surinder Singh, on July 29, the managing committee of Chandigarh Golf Club in a unanimous decision expelled Amanbir Singh Jaspal and Karan Sabharwal after holding them guilty of having resorted to an "unwarranted reaction". The period of suspension, which disallows the brothers from participating in any club activity, will hold good till April 30, 2016.

While Jaspal holds a green card membership, Sabharwal is married to a green card member and enjoys spouse rights. They are the sons of retired Punjab IAS officer, D S Jaspal.
Club president BS Gill told TOI on Friday that the inquiry had been conducted by vice-president and chairman of disciplinary sub-committee, Col H S Baidwan (retd).
"The guard has also been issued a warning not to indulge in liquor while on duty. Col Baidwan examined waiters, guards and both the sides. He also spoke to one of the women over phone, who had complained against the guard. Keeping in view the behaviour of Jaspal and Sabharwal, who did not try to brazen out when confronted by the committee's inquiry panel, and the complaint by Jaspal's wife, Sameena, the committee decided not to suspend them for a full year," said Gill.
Gill said the CCTV footage, which the police had taken, showed the assault on Surinder Singh and was an "unwarranted reaction". Gill had earlier told TOI that the CCTV footage did not show any retaliation by the guard to the assault. While Surinder Singh has suffered grievous injuries, the brothers did not reveal any injury.
Surinder Singh's elder son, Rahul, told TOI on Friday: "We welcome the decision of the club because the brothers have got their due punishment. My father had worked for the club for last 22 years."
Jaspal told TOI: "I would not like to say anything until the club intimates me about the results of the inquiry."
