Ferozepur: Amar Jyoti is being installed at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district on the 85th martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. The jyoti (flame) is being installed at the martyrs memorial near the India-Pakistan border. The flame will be lit on Wednesday coinciding with martyrdom day of the trio. The flame is being set up by the petroleum ministry.

A team of the ministry had visited the site few days ago and identified the spot. Due to its strategic location and close proximity to Pakistan border, Amar Jyoti will be lit from 9am to 8pm.
The idea was conceived a month ago when Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma, who belongs to Ferozepur, met petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan with the proposal. "Pradhan took no time in clearing the proposal for this patriotic cause and gave a go-ahead to Indian Oil Corporation to install the "jyoti" at martyrs memorial by March 23," Sharma told TOI.
Ferozepur deputy commissioner D P S Kharbanda said, "A special gas pipeline is being laid near the memorial to keep the flame lit and eight cylinders will be arranged for this. The flame will be installed on a marble pedestal for ease to visitors to help them pay homage to martyrs by bowing or laying wreaths. Border Security Force (BSF), which keeps vigil in the strategically-located area, has been informed about installation of the "jyoti", and it will be kept under strict vigil." Kharbanda said that design of the flame had been prepared by petroleum ministry and all details are being worked out by it, whereas civil works would be undertaken by Punjab government.
Bodies of the three martyrs were cremated on the banks of Satluj river in Hussainiwala on March 23, 1931 after they were executed at Central Jail, Lahore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reached Hussainiwala last year to pay homage to the martyrs on their 84th martyrdom day.
