Chandigarh: A major fire broke out at a discotheque-cum-restaurant and bar in Sector 26 on Thursday evening, gutting almost the entire interior. No casualties were reported as only a few staff members were present at the time. While the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed, sources indicated that a short circuit during ongoing electrical repair work may have triggered the blaze.Preliminary findings revealed the club allegedly did not have a fire safety certificate, raising serious concerns over compliance. “Furniture, electronic equipment and décor were completely destroyed. Employees also claimed cash and liquor stocks were lost. The damage appears extensive, though a detailed assessment is awaited,” an official said. The fire call was received around 4.30pm, following which eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Flames were brought under control within half an hour, but dense smoke lingered, keeping teams engaged for over two-and-a-half hours.More than 50 fire personnel participated in the operation. Police also assisted at the scene. A detailed report is expected soon.
