The victims were identified as Rajwant Kaur and Manpreet Kaur from Fazilka. They had been staying in the Sector 22 house for nearly a year and were working with a private company in Zirakpur. Police said Kuldeep was known to the sisters and had visited them earlier.
On Raksha Bandhan, when the sisters did not respond to calls from their brother, the family alerted relatives in Chandigarh. When they reached the PG around 2pm, they found both sisters murdered.
During investigation, police recovered CCTV footage of Kuldeep entering the building that morning. A Nepali youth living in the same property identified him as a frequent visitor. Sector-17 police registered a case and arrested Kuldeep a few days later. He has been in jail for nearly seven years.
The court has now held him guilty of the double murder; sentencing is awaited.
