Chandigarh Municipal Corporation gets Rs 6.20 crore bid for waste processing plant upgrade

The Municipal Corporation has finally received the lowest bid of Rs 6.20 crore for its ambitious project of overhauling the municipal solid waste processing plant, maintaining it as well as running it for one year, extendable by another two years.

CHANDIGARH: The Municipal Corporation has finally received the lowest bid of Rs 6.20 crore for its ambitious project of overhauling the municipal solid waste processing plant, maintaining it as well as running it for one year, extendable by another two years. The MC successfully opened the financial bid after a hectic exercise of almost six months and its fourth tender exercise for the project.
The financial bid was opened late on Friday evening.

The allotment process will start in a day or two after getting the lowest bid. Sources said the tender cost of the project was estimated at Rs 6.35 crore, against which the authority got Rs 6.20 crore, the lowest bid.
MC commissioner Anindita Mitra said, “It is proposed to overhaul, replace and repair plant machinery by replacement of a shredder, repair of the other shredder, motors, gear boxes, repair of trammels, cyclone dust collector, ID fan, rotary dryer, hot air generator and ballastic separator. A total of 82 persons will be deployed to run the wet and dry waste plant for one year. The cost of overhauling of the plant will be Rs 2.52 crore and Rs 3.63 crore will be spent on running it for a period of one year. The agency will also provide JCB and grab tractors in addition to labour to run the plant.”
She added that the plant would be operationalised in four months. The tender for the horticulture waste plant is to be opened next week. With these initiatives, Chandigarh MC shall be soon in a position to process its dry, wet and horticultural waste, which comprises 95% of the total waste,” the commissioner added.
Rated capacity of the dry waste plant is 200 TPD and rated capacity of the wet waste plant is 300 TPD. Chandigarh produces 200 TPD dry and 350 TPD wet waste. The plants are being operationalised to process maximum fresh waste and arrest its movement to the dumping ground.
The MC will not play any role in running the garbage processing plant, which will be the sole responsibility of the company hired.
