Mohali MC sees return of 26 former councillors; AAP bags majority
Mohali: Voters in the recently concluded municipal corporation elections have once again reposed faith in experience, with 26 former councillors returning to the house after winning their respective wards.
Of these, 13 contested on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket, nine on Congress tickets, and three as Independents. Shiromani Akali Dal’s Kuldeep Kaur Kang also retained her seat, registering her fourth consecutive win.
The results also reflected the continuation of political legacies. Wives of two former councillors won from women-reserved wards, while sons of two late councillors were elected, carrying forward their families’ public service traditions.
Among AAP winners are RP Sharma (ward 2), Gurmeet Kaur (3), Gurmukh Singh Sohal (8), Harvinder Kaur Lang (11), Rajni Goyal (23), Ravinder Singh Bindra (28), Ramanpreet Kaur Kumbhra (29), Aruna Sharma (32), Gurpreet Kaur (33), Sukhdev Singh Patwari (34), Harpal Singh (36), Kamaljit Kaur (40), and Sarabjit Singh Samana (42).

Independent winners include Paramjit Singh Kahlon (10), Kuldeep Kaur Dhanoa (13), and Upinderpreet Kaur (19).
Among notable family-linked wins, Charanjit Kaur (Ward 1) and Inderpreet Kaur Prince (Ward 7) are wives of former councillors, while Amarjit Singh and Gaurav Jain, sons of late leaders, also emerged victorious.
Observers said the verdict reflects a mix of preference for experienced leadership and space for the next generation in local politics.
