CHANDIGARH: Dr. Babita Kaura, 38, Associate Professor at PGI, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off her third floor flat in Sector 24 late Tuesday night. Sister of a Delhi-based IAS officer, Babita was with PGI''s immuno-pathology department.
Dr. Babita lived with her husband Dr Deepak Kaura, who owns a nursing home, Annie Heart Clinic, in the city, and two children aged 5 and 12, in a PGI apartment.
According to facts known thus far, Dr. Deepak Kaura went to his parents'' house at Sector 19, apparently to discuss the construction of a new clinic on Tuesday night.
Soon after, his sister, Deepali, arrived at his flat.
A few minutes later, Dr. Babita left Deepali in a room saying that she would be back after making a telephone call to her husband.
Instead, she walked out of the flat and jumped to her death. After Deepali heard a loud thud she began to look for her sister-in-law and finally found her lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Hearing Deepali''s screams doctors from the neighbouring quarters rushed out and gathered around Babita''s lifeless body.
"When I reached the spot, Deepali was shouting ''Dolly-Dolly''. I told the doctors about the incident," Avtar Singh, security guard told Times of Chandigarh.
The police got to the spot soon after. The postmortem is scheduled for Thursday at PGI. Inquest proceedings under Sec 174 of the CRPC have been initiated.
