Sonipat police arrest 85 for selling illegal arms in special drive
Sonipat: Police have arrested 84 alleged arms traffickers and offenders as part of a campaign against illegal firearms conducted between Jan 1 and May 31. The drive led to the registration of 70 criminal cases and the seizure of a substantial cache of illegal firearms and ammunition.The operation is part of the district police's broader strategy to curb organised crime, prevent violent offences and strengthen law and order across Sonipat. Officials said the campaign targeted individuals involved in the possession, trafficking and use of illegal weapons, with police teams carrying out sustained intelligence-based operations throughout the district.According to data, Sonipat police registered 70 cases under various provisions related to illegal arms during the first five months of 2026. A total of 84 accused were arrested, and 76 illegal weapons along with 83 live cartridges were recovered during the period.
