Telangana’s Rajnikant murder case solved; two accused murdered man over Russia job fraud and money dispute
KURUKSHETRA: The district police have solved the murder case of Rajnikant, a resident of Telangana, after arresting two accused in connection with the crime that stemmed from an alleged fraud involving promises of employment in Russia. The accused have been identified as Harman Singh and Ramswaroop alias Happy, residents of village Chourmastpur village in Ambala district. Both were produced before the district court in Kurukshetra on Friday, which sent them on four-day police remand.DSP Pehowa Nirmal Singh said the breakthrough was achieved under the directions of Kurukshetra SP Nitish Agarwal. The investigation was carried out by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-I, which successfully traced and arrested both accused.

The case came to light on January 16, 2026, when Kulwant Singh, a resident of village Manderi in Kurukshetra district, informed the police that on January 6, around 10 am, he was going to his fields to collect fodder when he noticed the body of a young man lying in a field near the village gurdwara. Police reached the spot, called the crime scene team, and conducted a detailed investigation. After post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.
Based on the statement, a case was registered at Ismailabad police station, and due to the seriousness of the crime, the investigation was handed over to CIA-I.DSP Nirmal Singh revealed that the deceased, Rajnikant a resident of Telangana, who was presently living in Lalru of Mohali district, was earlier residing in Russia and allegedly lured youths by promising them jobs there. Accused Harman Singh contacted Rajnikant, and a deal was struck for Rs 5 lakh. Rajnikant arranged a Russian e-visa and called Harman to Russia. However, when no employment materialised, both Rajnikant and Harman returned to India on December 15, 2025.The DSP said that after returning, Harman repeatedly demanded his money back, leading to frequent disputes between the two. On January 6, 2026, Harman and his friend Ramswaroop brought Rajnikant in a car to Thol village area in Kurukshetra district. An argument erupted there over the money. In a fit of rage, Harman, with the help of Ramswaroop, allegedly stabbed Rajnikant to death with a knife and later dumped the body along the roadside to conceal the crime, said the DSP.On January 8, 2026, acting on specific inputs, a CIA-I team led by inspector Surender Kumar arrested both accused. Police said the case highlights the dangers of illegal overseas job rackets and assured strict action against those involved in such fraudulent activities.
