LUDHIANA: A secretly recordedaudio-cassette which has been submitted to the vigilance bureau (VB) byHarcharan Singh Ghuman alias Bittu, on whose complaint an FIR was registeredagainst former technical education minister Jagdish Singh Garcha and others,could expose a nexus between politicians. The audio cassette could also provideevidence of criminal activity against Ghuman.His sister HarjitKaur''s voice has been recorded on the audio-cassette, sources claim. His sisteris said to be sharing the residence of Mann Singh Garcha, brother of JagdishSingh Garcha.The residence at Dholewal chowk, which is worth severalcrores of rupees is presently occupied by Mann, Harjit and her husband. Bittu,on the other hand, alleges that the house is his ancestralproperty.With regard to this, last week the VB registered an FIRagainst the minister, Mann, Sukhdev who is also Garcha''s brother and Mann''s sonHarpreet Singh.The Garchas came under fire last year when JagdishSingh Garcha was put behind bars by the VB in the Punjab Technical Universitycase.In the cassette, Harjit talks about the frequent visits ofPunjab minister of prisons and urban development Malkiat Singh Birmi at theirresidence.
She says, "He had come to ask about Mann''s health. Heoften visits our residence."Harjit also took the name of anotherminister and a former MLA in the recorded conversation. She claims that she has"good relations with the minister".Birmi told Times News Networkthat the woman was lying and he had never visited Mann Singh Garcha''s house. Headded that he did not even know what the house looked like.Harjit isheard speaking about her ill health to her sister and how Mann takes her to buymedicines each week.She has also mentioned the disputed property inthe recording. She is reported to have said that since he would give her no partof the property she and Mann got her brother beaten up.She is alsoreported to have said that she "got the legs of her brother broken after whichhe was hospitalised for months".She is also reported to have said:"We put him in a corner, but he is a stubborn man, and still thinks he can getthe property back." DSP D S Dhillon, who is the investigating officer, admittedthat an audio cassette has been attached along with the FIR received by thevigilance team.Without going into the contents of the cassette, hesaid that they were yet to identify the woman''s voice.
