CHANDIGARH: The monthly meeting of the municipal corporation’s finance and contract committee (F&CC) on Monday is likely to be lengthy. Members will discuss and approve as many as 59 main agenda items, a number that has never gone up so high for a single meeting in the recent past. Sources said there are multiple reasons for the long list.
As the F&CC has powers to bring, discuss and approve works of less than Rs 50 lakh, municipal councillors and officers prefer to bring such matters before it than the general house.

“If any agenda goes slightly above Rs 50 lakh, combined efforts are made to lower the amount so that it can be tabled before the F&CC, where only a limited members discuss and take decisions,” sources said.
Another factor is that multiple sub-committees of the MC are yet to be constituted by the ruling BJP. Matters related to these committees are also among the agenda items - most related to development works of different wings of the engineering department.
“A list shows an agenda of even less than Rs 2 lakh related to installations of air conditioners will come up in the meeting. Two agenda items of the same building are also in the list,” sources said. The mayor in consultation with the municipal commissioner had approved the list on Saturday.
