CHENNAI: Earlier this week, Chennai author and historian Pradeep Chakravarthy received the Tamil Heritage Trust (THT) - Prof. S. Swaminathan Heritage Award 2022.
He was picked from over 25 nominations by an accomplished jury panel comprising Sanjay Garg, officer on special duty, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav secretariat, ministry of culture, Government of India; Kumud Kanitkar, independent researcher of Indology; P.L.
Udayakumar, founder of the civic activism project 'Inscription Stones of Bangalore'; and R. Kannan, co-founder of Tamil Heritage Trust and board member, Natayarangam, Narada Gana Sabha's dance wing.
THT was founded as a non-profit Trust in the year 2010 with a vision to put the common man in touch with Indian heritage.
The Trust, which is entirely volunteer-driven, works through several initiatives - monthly public talks, annual thematic conferences, site seminars and study tours to places of historical interest, workshops on temple architecture and an outreach effort through schools to sensitize young students to Indian heritage.
“It is our endeavour to encourage and enable serious-minded young individuals to make the study of heritage and history their life’s work, and it is heartening to see Pradeep Chakravarthy receive this award,” said S Swaminathan, co-founder and Trustee of THT.
“I believe that at a fundamental level, human nature has changed very little. Our needs and fears are eternal and universal, and history can teach us how to alter behaviour to become successful. Through its work, the Tamil Heritage Trust has done much to promote an understanding of history which has both breadth and depth. I am truly honoured to be bestowed this award," said Pradeep.
