Five-year-old girl gets run over by car near Avadi, dies
Chennai: A five-year-old girl was killed after a car driven by a head constable crashed into her near Avadi on Thursday night. A man who was accompanying her was severely injured. The deceased was identified as Dhanya Sara, daughter of Santhakumar, 32, and Ramya, 28, who works at a private bank in Tiruvallur.
Police said Ramya was travelling from Tiruninravur to Tiruvallur on a motorcycle with her daughter and colleague Gunasekaran, 35. When they reached Ayathur on the Chennai–Tirupati Bypass Road, the child reportedly felt unwell. Gunasekaran stopped the vehicle and Ramya took Dhanya little ahead as she started vomitting.

Dhanya died on the spot, while Gunasekaran sustained serious injuries. Police rushed him to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. The child’s body was sent for postmortem.
Police identified the car driver as Vikraman, a head constable attached to Sevvapet police station. He was reportedly travelling with his family towards Tiruvallangadu. Poonamallee traffic investigation wing has registered a case and a probe is on.
