Heroin smuggling case: Chennai court sentences two men to 10 years rigorous imprisonment

A special court in Chennai on Friday sentenced two men to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine Rs 1 lakh each in a case of narcotics trafficking detected by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in October 2012.

CHENNAI: A special court in Chennai on Friday sentenced two men to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine Rs 1 lakh each in a case of narcotics trafficking detected by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in October 2012.
K Ayappan, the Principal special judge II, additional special court under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, found Sivanesan of Velankanni and Fahim of Mumbai guilty under Section 8(c) read with Section 21(c) and Section 29 of the Act.

The DRI had booked the case after intercepting Sivanesan and Fahim on October 28, 2012 when the latter travelled in a train from Mumbai to Chennai Central to hand over 4.08 kg of heroin to the former. It was being handed over in a backpack in front of the suburban terminal. The DRI recovered 2kg of drug from Sivanesan's residence too.
