Mother-daughter duo arrested for theft at Chennai

Chennai: Koyambedu police arrested a woman and her daughter on Thursday for stealing 30.43g of gold jewellery and a 10g silver coin from a house at Nerkundram. The complainant, Maheshwari, 50, of Meenakshi Nagar at Nerkundram, told police that she and her children went on a vacation on April 30. When they returned home on May 8, she found that gold jewellery kept inside a bureau was missing. The stolen items included diamond earrings, gold bangles, a gold chain, a ring and a silver coin. On investigating, police found that Sathya, 38, of Villivakkam, and her daughter Hemalatha, 21, of Anna Nagar, visited the complainant's house on April 30 to meet Maheshwari's father, and stole the jewellery.
