Thousands of devotees attended the annual festival at the Ujjaini Amman temple in Dimbatti in the Nilgiris that concluded on Tuesday after eight days of devotion and merriment.

CHENNAI: Thousands of devotees attended the annual festival at the Ujjaini Amman temple in Dimbatti in the Nilgiris that concluded on Tuesday after eight days of devotion and merriment.
The temple is situated in the core forest area.
The festival started on March 1 with Amman (mother goddess) idol leaving the temple. After covering eight villages, the idol returned to the temple on Tuesday, marking the end of the festival.

The devotees, who had been accompanying the Amman idol for eight days, took a holy dip in the tank adjacent to the temple which is filled with fresh water.
The festive season in the Nilgiris began in December with annual festivals in different temples across the plateau, said Nilgiri Documentation Centre founder D Venugopal.
