CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu assembly on Tuesday passed resolutions condoling the deaths of Congress Erode (East) MLA E Thirumahan Everaa, Brazilian football legend Pele and other prominent personalities and adjourned for the day.
The House paid homage to Tamil scholar K Nedunchezhiyan, veteran screenwriter Aaroor Das, educationist and Padma Shri awardee ‘Avvai’ Natarajan, renowned artist and writer and Padma Shri awardee Manohar Devadoss, Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission vice-chairman and former MP D Masthan and passed condolence resolutions.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Earlier, speaker M Appavu made obituary references on the demise of four former legislators, A Chinnasamy (Jayankondam), K Aadimoolam (Andimadam), Durai Govindarajan (Gandarvakottai, Thiruvonam and Thiruvaiyaru), N Somasundaram (Valangaiman).
The assembly will meet on Wednesday for the debate on motion of thanks to the governor’s address. Chief minister M K Stalin will reply on Friday, the concluding day.
