COIMBATORE: A group of industrialists and educationists have decided to set up a multi-speciality hospital in Perur on the outskirts of Coimbatore.
The hospital is being set up to mark the 91st birthday of H H Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar. A three-day celebration for his birthday will also be carried out between September 8 and 10.
H H Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, who is credited with starting the Perur Tamil College, is revered among many for his initiatives and efforts to preserve and popularise Tamil culture and history.

He is also considered a spiritual guru for devotees and followers of the Perur madam. “We wanted to do a grand celebration on his birthday, but he wanted something simple that will help society,” said chairman of Bannari Amman group of companies S V Balasubramaniam. “So, he suggested setting up a hospital that will help people,” he said.
The 100-bed hospital will be constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore on a five acre plot that has been contributed by the Acharya’s wife, son and daughter.
“The hospital will be set up by a trust that will be formed by Ramasamy Adigalar and will have philanthropists like myself, chairman of Sakthi Group of Companies M Manickam, chairman of KMCH Hospitals Dr N G Palanisamy, Dr KG Shanmuganathan of Ganga Hospital, O Arumugasamy of Senthil Group of Companies and K Ramasamy of Roots Group of Companies,” said Balasubramaniam.
The foundation stone for the hospital will be laid by the Acharya on October 10.
