COIMBATORE: Attempts of local DMK strongman and district panchayat vice-president E Anandan to be bailed out of jail has failed yet again as Coimbatore rural police made him prime accused in another land scam case worth 3 crore on Friday. Right hand man of former union minister A Raja, Anandan is now facing a total of six major land grab cases in various parts of the district.
Police have slapped the fresh case on Anandan on the same day he initiated bail proceedings in the existing five cases. Anandan is in Coimbatore central prison for the last 45 days. Two more cases against Anandan are in the pipeline, says investigating officials.According to police sources, the disputed land worth 5.96 acres belongs to Kavumdanpalayam near Annur on the outskirts of the city. The land was under the joint ownership of S Jayachandran, a farmer of the region, and his sister Dhanalakshmi. Both had equal shares over the land. Anandan and his relative P Vijayakrishnan were attempting to buy the land ever since 2004. Anandan allegedly purchased the land from Jayachandran by saying that he would murder him if he did not sign the document. Anandan and Vijayakrishnan allegedly grabbed the portion of landby paying a meager amount of 9 lakh to Jayachandran. Jayachandran filed a case with Annur police on Thursday and Anandan was made an accused on Friday.
