COIMBATORE: A 25-member medical team has been pressed into action in Veerampatty Vellur village at Kudimangalam block in Tirupur district following the death of three people including a mother and daughter due to a mysterious fever, on three different days.
The deceased have been identified as Masilamani (36), her daughter Manjupriya (20) and their neighbour Palanal (55).
Both the mother and daughter were working as labourers and were suffering from fever for the past one week. The victims were treated for fever in various hospitals, said K Geeta Rani, Kudimangalam block medical officer.
Masilamani died on Monday at her house after she returned from hospital. She had complained of severe stomach pain before she breathed her last. On Tuesday her daughter Manjupriya was also admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, but her health continued to deteriorate. Renal failure was reported as the cause of death by CMCH doctors. Palanal died at Kunuthur at her relative's place on Wednesday, Geeta Rani said.
Geeta Rani said that a team of 25 medical staff headed by director of health, is conducting various tests and implementing sanitation measures in the affected village. Blood samples were collected from people and have been sent for testing. The water tanks has been removed and sanitised. Fogging and anti-larval measures have been taken up, she said. Initial apprehensions of dengue outbreak were later dismissed after all the victims tested negative. Further tests are on to ascertain the cause, she added.
