DEHRADUN: A class 10 student of a prominent school in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, was allegedly gang-raped by five men, including three from Maharashtra, at a hotel in Delhi. Police arrested the five men -- all friends -- from Delhi on Thursday.
The 15-year-old girl was found in Delhi five days ago after her father lodged a complaint, stating that "she went missing after leaving for school on Oct 4".
A senior cop, privy to the case, told TOI: "During investigation, police found that the teenager had boarded a train from Haldwani to Delhi on Oct 4. Her movement was tracked on the basis of her phone location and she was brought back to Haldwani five days ago, and handed over to her family. When police started counselling her, she told them that she was gang-raped by five men at a hotel in Delhi. Three of the five, all from Maharashtra, had met her on the same train."
Following her statement, police reached the hotel and identified the accused by examining CCTV footage and copies of the IDs provided by the hotel management.
Haldwani (city) circle officer, Nitin Lohani, said, "Medical tests confirmed she was sexually assaulted. A case under BNS section 70 (gang-rape) and Pocso Act was registered against the five men, and they were sent to jail."
The accused men were Sandesh Chiplakar (25), Roshan Patil (29), Yogesh Naik (34) -- all from Raigarh, Maharashtra -- and Ashish Agarkar (30) and Sahil Kumar (24) from Delhi, police said.
