Dehradun: In a first for Uttarakhand, officials said an indoor badminton court for persons with disabilities (PwDs) is being developed in
Rishikesh by the Dehradun district administration at a cost of Rs 62.7 lakh.
The first instalment of Rs 25.4 lakh has been released to Rishikesh Municipal Corporation, while the remaining Rs 37.3 lakh has been approved.
District magistrate Savin Bansal said the facility will give athletes with disabilities access to a dedicated indoor court. “This will help bring hidden talent to the fore and enable them to compete at state, national and international levels,” he said.
Bansal said development of basic amenities for PwDs remains a priority. “The facility will support their physical health and help integrate them into the social mainstream,” he said.
Rishikesh municipal commissioner Gopal Ram Binwal said that the court is being developed in Ganga Nagar and will be ready in the next three months.
