NEW DELHI: The east district police on Saturday arrested five persons for allegedly killing a truck driver.
According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Kaiser Ali, Ashim Ali, Wajid Ali, Mohammad Shakeel and Guddu Khan. On January 6, the police had found an unidentified body with its hands tied and marks around the neck. The victim was identified as Santosh Kumar Yadav, a truck driver at inland container depot (ICD), Tughlakabad.
Based on their investigations, police apprehended Kaiser, a driver, and Aasim, a loader at ICD Tughlakabad.
"The duo revealed that they were members of Washid-Jamshed gang which loots trucks on highways. Based on the information given by the two, other accused were arrested from a flat in Shalimar Bagh, '' said a police official.
The plan was to loot the truck, driven by Santosh, which was loaded with plastic beads. They even promised Santosh a share in the loot if he helps them. On January 4, Wajid and Guddu followed the truck in a Santro car and got it unloaded at Sahibabad.
"They later killed the driver and dumped his body near NH-24 and left the truck near Rajghat, said police. Raids are being conducted to apprehend the other members of the gang and to recover the goods,'' official added.
