NEW DELHI: A day after a one-year-old boy in a stroller was injured after being hit by a 16-year-old reversing his Baleno car in C R Park, the baby is still recovering in Saket's Max Hospital.
Just four days back, on August 5, Chirag celebrated his first birthday, but now his parents are praying for his life. The incident happened on Friday evening in C R Park's Pocket 52 when Chirag's mother, Deepa Malhotra, took him for a stroll accompanied by his maid.
Chirag was with his mother when the car, which was reversing with some speed, hit them.
Deepa fell to the ground, but was unhurt, and the stroller overturned injuring Chirag on the head. "It was a coincidence that the maid who was with them pulled Chirag in time, else he would have been crushed under the car," said an anguished Kunal Malhotra, Chirag's father. He added that the minor did not see the baby and his mother while reversing the car.
Ved Malhotra, Chirag's grandfather said the family is in utter shock. "We still can't accept what has happened. Though a surgery has been done, doctors said he is still under observation. He might be discharged from the hospital tomorrow, but we have to bring him for dressing every alternate day," Chirag's grandfather added.
The family now demands strict laws to curb reckless driving by minors. "The wealthy are careless enough to give luxury cars to their children. These children enjoy their rides, but due to their fun, we could have lost our only son. His mother is still disturbed and is not ready to leave Chirag even for a minute," said Kunal.
A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered at C R Park police station because the case involves a mi nor, the boy has not been arrested, said the police.
