Car catches fire near Congress HQ

NEW DELHI: A Hyundai Accent caught fire at 12 Akbar Road, very close to the All India Congress Committee headquarters, on Monday afternoon. Although the driver escaped unhurt, the incident sent the cops into a tizzy for a while. The incident occurred around 3pm and traffic was disrupted for about half an hour.
The driver of the car, Kranti Prasad, was on his way to south Delhi when he saw smoke emanating from the car's bonnet, cops said."He pulled over to check near the Congress party headquarters, when all of a sudden, flames engulfed the car," said a senior police officer. He added that the fire was most probably caused due to overheating of the engine.
"We received a call at 3.26pm and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control soon," said a fire official.
