NEW DELHI: A day after he allegedly attacked a woman and her 20-year-old daughter inside their house in Lajpat Nagar, 25-year-old Ankur Sabharwal was on Saturday remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
According to the police, Sabharwal will have to undergo test identification parade (TIP). There are two important witnesses in the case apart from the victims.
He was chased by the victims' landlord, Bharat Bhusan Bhutani, and his wife Simmi Bhutani. "He will be paraded before the two for identification," said a police officer.
Police said that the accused was upset with Monica (50) because she opposed Sabharwal's 'friendship' with her elder daughter Shivangi Mangal. He also didn't like the fact that the family was looking for a suitable match for Shivangi. He reportedly had an argument with Shivangi over phone before he flew into rage. Shivangi was also examined by the cops on Saturday.
On Friday, when Shivangi's father Sanjay Mangal, who runs a transport business, had gone to drop Shivangi to school where she is a teacher, Sabharwal entered their home. The main door of their second-floor house was secured with a camera fitted lock but it was not working. "After gaining entry, Sabharwal first attacked the mother. When Shivangi's younger sister, Megha, came to rescue her mother, he attacked her too," said a police officer. Both are still in critical condition at Moolchand hospital where Megha had undergone an operation while her mother is still in ICU.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Lajpat Nagar police station.
Sabharwal, who is married, was known to Shivangi for the past six years and wanted to marry her. The family of Shivangi before moving to its present rented house at Lajpat Nagar lived at DLF Gurgaon where Sabharwal used to visit them regularly. He became friends with Shivangi while they were in Gurgaon. She was a college student then and later the family shifted to Lajpat Nagar.
