Delhi Airport’s upgraded Terminal 2

Delhi Airport’s upgraded Terminal 2, closed in April for extensive renovation, will resume operations from Sunday. Around 120 domestic flights of Air India and IndiGo will operate from the terminal, marking a major step in improving passenger convenience and handling growing domestic air traffic efficiently. First Flight Operations from T2

The first arrival at T2 will be Air India Express flight 6E 2058 from Lucknow at 12:25 am, while the first departure, 6E 2343 to Pune, is scheduled for 2:15 am on Sunday. This will officially mark the operational shift of domestic flights to the upgraded terminal.

Union Aviation Officials to Visit

Union Minister for Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, and Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha will inspect the upgraded T2 on Saturday ahead of its reopening. Their visit will showcase the enhancements made to improve passenger convenience, operational efficiency, and accessibility at the terminal.

4/11

Passenger-Friendly Features Added

The upgraded T2 now includes a self baggage-drop facility, six new passenger boarding bridges, high-resolution flight information displays, and accessibility-focused signage. These features reduce wait times, provide real-time flight updates, and ensure smoother boarding, particularly for passengers with reduced mobility.

5/11

Enhanced Flight Information Systems

A new high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS) has been introduced in T2. It provides real-time updates with improved accuracy, helping passengers track arrivals, departures, and gate information efficiently, thus enhancing the overall travel experience and reducing confusion within the terminal.

Self Baggage-Drop Facility

The independent self baggage-drop (SBD) facility allows passengers to tag and drop their luggage quickly, avoiding long queues. It streamlines the check-in process, enabling a faster, hassle-free airport experience while reducing crowding at counters. This facility is part of DIAL’s focus on passenger convenience.

Airline Operations Shift

Air India’s domestic flights (1XXX series) and IndiGo’s 2000–2999 series flights will now operate from T2. Air India Express domestic flights remain at T1, while international flights continue at T3. Passengers are advised to check terminal and flight details through airline apps or websites before travel.

Enhanced Accessibility for All Passengers

The upgraded T2 features signage and boarding facilities designed for passengers with reduced mobility. Elevated ramps, clearly marked pathways, and dedicated support ensure that everyone, including wheelchair users, can navigate the terminal safely and independently, making travel smoother, more inclusive, and convenient for all passengers. Future Plans for Terminal 2

While T2 reopens with upgraded facilities, DIAL plans to eventually demolish it and build a larger Terminal 4 (T4) to handle increasing passenger traffic. The current enhancements ensure a smoother, safer, and more accessible experience for travelers until T4 becomes operational in the future. (FILE PHOTO)

New Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs)

Six modern passenger boarding bridges with autonomous docking technology have been installed. These South Korea–procured bridges feature elevated ramps for wheelchair access, side-covering cushions for safety, and swing doors for operator protection. They ensure smooth, safe boarding while enhancing the terminal’s modern appearance. (FILE PHOTO)

Terminal Background and Capacity

Originally opened in 1986 as Delhi’s international terminal, T2 shifted functions in 2010 to T3 and was later mothballed. Now upgraded as a domestic terminal, it complements IGIA’s annual capacity of 11 crore passengers. Last year, the airport handled 7.8 crore passengers, indicating growing demand for domestic services. (FILE PHOTO)
