Delhi Police bust fake call centre, arrest 3 in separate cases
New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted a fake call centre syndicate and arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly cheating people by offering fake franchises of a Jan Sahayta Kendra.
Police received a complaint from a man alleging he had been duped on the pretext of being provided a franchise and distributor ID for the centre. The accused allegedly disappeared after receiving Rs 21,330 from him.
A case was registered. During the investigation, police tracked the financial trail and identified the accused as Mohammad Shiraj, a resident of Tughlakabad Extension. He was subsequently traced and arrested.
“The accused revealed that he, along with his associates Rahul and Vaishnavi, was running a fake call centre from Noida,” said DCP (outer north) Hareshwar Swami. Police said the syndicate posted attractive advertisements on social media, offering Jan Sahayta Kendra franchises to lure victims.
In a separate case, Delhi Police busted an online fraud racket and arrested two men allegedly involved in facilitating the movement of defrauded money through mule bank accounts.
The case came to light after a senior citizen from Shahdara reported that around Rs 1.7 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account without authorisation after he clicked on a link received on social media.
Two accused, identified as Abhay Kumar (24) and Amreek Singh (36), were arrested. Police said they were involved in operating mule accounts used to route and withdraw proceeds of cyber fraud.
