NEW DELHI: Hindu College reported the first case of a fake marksheet being submitted in this academic session.
The fact that the applicant, an alumna of Presentation Convent and an Ashok Vihar resident, had submitted fake papers was detected when the college authorities verified her marks on the CBSE website.
Although a cheating case was registered at Maurice Nagar police station on July 18, the police are yet to arrest the girl.
The case was registered after the college authorities spoke to the girl who admitted to having used a fake marksheet.
Hindu College principal Kavita Sharma said: "Although we had checked the marksheet on the website, we wanted to confirm it with the school principal. After confirming facts with the principal, we called the girl, who also admitted her mistake."
According to the police, the girl took admission in the BCom (honours) course on June 27. She submitted her original marksheets along with the college fee. "Since we have stopped taking original marksheets from this year, we returned her papers and took self-attested copies of the certificates," said Sharma.
On noticing discrepancies between the submitted marksheet and the CBSE record, the college wrote to the Presentation Convent principal on July 3. A day later the girl also visited the college principal along with her parents.
They were accompanied by a person called Amit Gaur who claimed to be the girl''s relative. Sharma said: "When we questioned the girl and her parents, they failed to give us a satisfactory reply."
Gaur, however, left two mobilephone numbers which turned out to be false. The girl was asked to come back on July 7, but she did not come. The college authorities later went to the police.
