New CBSE marksheet to end stigma
NEW DELHI: There is good news for students who appeared in the Central Board of Secondary Education compartmental examination this year.
Taking into account the stigma associated with a marksheet that does not show the student passing in all subjects, the Board from this year has decided to provide consolidated marksheets to students.
The marksheet thus given to the student will have a consolidated marks statement.

It will not show whether the marks have been acquired through main or compartmental examinations. Until now, a student was given the initial marksheet showing his compartment and later, the compartment marksheet specifying his marks in the relevant subjects.
‘‘These children used to face acceptability problems at various places. Many people still do not understand the difference between compartment and failed,’’ said examination controller Pavnesh Kumar. This step has been taken to ease out problems faced by the students.
The Board seems to be going at length to help these students. Beginning 2002, the CBSE also introduced a double opportunity for Class 10 students to clear compartmental examinations as compared to the single chance given till last year.
Of the over 1 lakh students of Class 10 who appeared for compartmental examinations this year, 52,319 passed. In Class 12 about 37,499 students appeared for compartmental exams, of which 26,264 students passed.
