FARIDABAD: After abducting an 8-year-old girl who lived 100 metres from his house in Sarai, a factory worker allegedly slit the minor's wrist as she tried to raise an alarm and then pushed her into an iron trunk that he shoved underneath his bed.
The girl, found unconscious, died during treatment at a hospital in Delhi on Wednesday.
Cops said they have arrested the 30-year-old accused, a native of West Bengal who worked at a factory in the city.
He has been booked under the Pocso Act and IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder).
"The accused told cops he abducted the girl with malafide intentions, and took her to his house. As she was shouting to free herself, he slit her wrist, pushed her inside an iron trunk and hid it in the bed box," the spokesperson said.
The post-mortem examination has been carried out and the autopsy report is awaited. Cops said the report will confirm if the minor was sexually assaulted.
Police said the worker lived alone in the city; his wife and three children are in Kolkata.
