GHAZIABAD: A 48-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in the Kotwali area on Thursday morning, some 12 hours after she had checked into the facility with a man.
Police said
Priyanka Devi checked into Arya Deep hotel near Ghaziabad railway station with the man around 11.30pm on Wednesday after having missed the last train to her home district of Aligarh.
At the reception, she introduced the man as her relative. The man has been absconding, cops said.
Vijay Yadav, manager of the hotel, said the woman often used to stay at the hotel. “On Wednesday night, she told us that she needed a room as she had missed the last train to Aligarh. But she only filled in her personal details,” he said.
Around 10.20am on Thursday, when one of the hotel’s housing cleaning staff went to clean her room, he found it locked from outside. “When we finally broke open the lock, we found her body lying on the floor. Immediately, we informed the police,” Yadav said. Nipurn Aggarwal, SP (City-1), said, “We got a call around 10.30am. Immediately, a police team reached the spot. A forensic team also visited the hotel. We found some injury marks on her neck, but we are waiting for the autopsy report.”
CCTV footage revealed that the man left the hotel around 2.30am on Thursday after locking the room's gate from outside, sources said. At the time, the hotel staff was sleeping. “We have informed her family and her husband, Vyapar Singh, who works with a private company in Aligarh, is on his way to Ghaziabad,” another police official said.
