Panaji:
TMC on Saturday said that defeating BJP is the most important task and that it is willing to do whatever it takes to prevent BJP from forming the government after the 2022 assembly elections.
TMC said that all parties, including AAP, are part of the anti-BJP team.
“This time, we will do whatever is necessary. There is no ego involved. We are not going to say what is necessary...
you can understand,” TMC MP Mahua Moitra said. “We want to make sure that BJP does not find a way through the side to go and form the next government.”
Asked specifically if an alliance or a mahaghatbandan is possible, Moitra said, “We are saying nothing is impossible in politics.”
Moitra, who is TMC’s Goa desk in-charge, said that defeating BJP is the most important task and in order to defeat it, TMC and Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee are ready to do whatever it takes. She said that the Pramod Sawant-led government is “running the Goa government through the back door” because of the lack of unity in the opposition space.
“We are saying that BJP is the biggest enemy, they need to be defeated. TMC does not have any problem, our ego will not stand in the way. We are all committed to get BJP out,” she said.
When reminded that Congress and TMC have often traded charges of being B-teams of BJP, Moitra downplayed such statements. “During elections a lot of charges are made that we are B team, they are A team. It happens. There are no such teams. We are all on the anti-BJP team,” she said.
While extending the olive branch to Congress, TMC continued to poach Congress members. Former Congress general secretary and Mormugao municipality councillor Saifullah Khan joined TMC along with 16 others. , The new entrants said that TMC is the only credible alternative against the fascist BJP.
“If someone wants to defeat BJP, if someone wants to defeat Modi, then Mamata Banerjee is the only option,” Khan said.
