PANAJI: A couple of police officials have come under the scanner in the fake notes case following the interrogation of PSI Vaibhav Naik.
Anjuna police, who recorded Naik's statement in the fake notes case, disclosed that Naik has confessed his role in distribution of the fake notes. The sources also stated that the PSI who is now under suspension has pointed fingers at some senior officials in his police sub-division.
"Vaibhav confessed his involvement in the fake notes case, he has also named some superiors involvement in the case," said high-level police sources.
Officially, the police have denied that Naik has stated the involvement of his senior officers. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the police immediately take action. "Police should immediately arrest the senior officers named to further investigate the case," said BJP's spokesperson Rajendra Arlekar.
On Monday, the Calangute police had taken custody of Mohommad Asraful Naque to conduct investigations in PSI Vaibhav Naik involvement in the fake currency case. Naque was serving a seven-year imprisonment in the 2010 fake currency case at Vasco.
PSI Naik was arrested by the Calangute police on Sunday evening after he was called to the police station for questioning. Though PSI Naik denied allegations made by the accused Aditya Yadav, 32, alias Chintamani from Vasco, that he had supplied the notes to them on July 22, police found that some of the serial numbers matched the fake currency notes that were seized by him in Vasco in March 2010.
