MARGAO: Health minister Vishwajit Rane has said that the state government plans to introduce six cardiac ambulances in Goa.
During his visit to the ailing Margao Hospicio on Sunday morning, Rane said that one of the proposed cardiac ambulances will be stationed at the hospital with a cardiac doctor available around-the-clock.
Rane also announced his plans to replicate the Karnataka model of utilising old, outdated 108 ambulance vehicles as hearse vans with an attendant in them free-of-cost for the benefit of the underprivileged section of society by July 31.
“Six old ambulances will be refurbished instead of being condemned and converted into hearse vans with an attendant in them. Initially, there will be six ambulances posted at prominent locations with one of them stationed at Hospicio. This proposal has been handed over to the government,” Rane said.
The minister gave a patient hearing to the various problems plaguing Hospicio such as consultants, specialists, postmortems, PROs, etc and assured to conduct a review meeting within the next 10-15 days.
Also present were the under secretary (health) Dr Rajnanda Dessai, director of health services Dr Sanjeev Dalvi, Hospicio medical superintendent Dr Ira Almeida and others.
