SALIGAO/PANAJI: In separate cases, police arrested two men, natives of Bihar and Delhi, for snatching gold chains.
Mapusa police said Anandi Mayekar, 65, a resident of Revora, lodged a complaint on January 7, against a bike-borne suspect who snatched her gold chain weighing 32g, worth Rs 1.2 lakh. A team investigated the crime and apprehended Wazid Ali, 24, a resident of Mushirwado, Colvale, and native of Bihar.
Ali confessed to the crime, and police recovered the stolen jewellery from him.
Rakesh Sharma, 34, allegedly involved in 14 cases of theft and chain-snatching in Delhi and in Goa, was arrested by the crime branch from a guest house in Mandrem on Friday. During a search of his bag, four broken mangalsutras, three broken gold chains and one locket, together worth around Rs 5 lakh, were found.
On interrogation, Sharma confessed to having committed a series of property offences and thefts in Delhi, said crime branch SP Pankaj Kumar Singh . Further investigations are under way.
