Enhance garbage transfer stations: Municipal Corporation of Gurugram to Ecogreen
Waste from the city is unloaded by collection vehicles at the three transfer stations in Beriwala Bagh, Atul Kataria Chowk and Sector 43
GURUGRAM: MCG has directed its solid waste management concessionaire Ecogreen to enhance the capacity of the waste transfer stations. MCG officials said the transfer stations are not running at their full capacity due to which heaps of garbage have started piling up at the stations. The city has three transfer stations, one each in Beriwala Bagh, Atul Kataria Chowk and Sector 43. Waste collected from the city is unloaded by various vehicles at these transfer stations where it is stored before transferring to the landfill for its final disposal. Waste is also unloaded at secondary waste collection points. The transfer stations have the capacity of storing and transferring 200 tonnes of waste every day to the landfill site but only 100 tonnes to 120 tonnes of waste is being transported in covered containers."A meeting was held recently in which Ecogreen was given directions to operate at their full capacity and also enhance it," said an MCG official privy to the matter.Ecogreen, however, said the transfer stations were not operating because of rains since waste processing at Bandhwari had also stopped."We will soon start operating the transfer stations at full capacity. The stations could not be operated at full capacity due to rains but we are now working to enhance the capacity of our transfer stations," said Sanjay Sharma, deputy CEO of Ecogreen.
The civic body has also constructed material recovery facilities (MRFs) at Sector 44 and South city and has handed them over to Ecogreen. The concessionaire has been directed now to start the work of wet waste composting and recycling of dry waste at these MRFs at the earliest."We had also sought information on the status of new MRFs that are planned to come up in the city," said the MCG official.
