NCR fog horror: Dense fog triggers series of accidents in Nuh, Gurgaon, Faridabad; authorities clear wreckage using cranes
GURGAON: A thick blanket of fog descended over NCR on Monday morning, triggering a spate of highway accidents that left six persons dead and several others injured. The series of collisions, including pileups on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway, occurred within hours of each other as visibility dropped to near zero early morning, catching motorists off guard and paralysing traffic.
The first accident occurred near Raniyala Patakpur village on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Nuh, where at least 20 vehicles, including two trucks, were involved in a chain of collisions. Among the victims was CISF inspector Harish Kumar (38) from Ambedkar Nagar in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, who died when his vehicle crashed into another in front. Khalil (45) of Jaipur also died when his car became entangled in the pile-up. Five others were injured and taken to Mandi Kheda hospital, where police confirmed their condition was stable.
Cops agreed that the accident was caused by dense fog that enveloped the highway, drastically reducing visibility. “Yes, the accident occurred due to extremely low visibility caused by dense fog. Multiple vehicles failed to notice those ahead in time and collided with each other,” a police officer said.
Emergency teams and highway authorities responded quickly, clearing the wreckage with cranes and restoring traffic flow without prolonged congestion.
Elsewhere on the expressway — near Banarsi village — seven to eight vehicles were caught in another collision. While several vehicles were damaged, there were no injuries. A third accident occurred on Delhi-Alwar Road near Ghaseda village, where a Haryana Roadways bus collided with a tractor. Police confirmed there were no casualties, though both vehicles suffered significant damage.
The hazardous conditions extended beyond Nuh. In Faridabad, a Ford Endeavour crashed into a stationary truck onDelhi-Mumbai Expressway near Kail village. Sandeep (32) and Vishal (24), both from Jaipur, died before they could wheeled into a hospital. Vishal’s driver, Harsh, who suffered grievous injuries to his eyes, succumbed during treatment. Police said the truck was parked after exiting the expressway, and the impact left one side of the SUV completely crushed. A case was registered against the truck driver under relevant sections of BNS.
Gurgaon city wasn’t spared either. On Southern Peripheral Road, a car collided with another vehicle around 7am, while a similar accident occurred on Golf Course Extension Road, where a car crashed into a cab. On KMP Expressway, a truck struck a stationary heavy vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries werereported in these accidents, which were also caused by dense fog.
On the other side of NCR — in Noida — at least 20 vehicles were involved in two incidents of pileups on Eastern Peripheral Expressway, leading to the death of a 24-year old truck driver. According to police, 13 others were injured in the accidents in Ecotech 1 area. The accidents, officials said, occurred merely 500 metres apart near Attai village. “Due to dense fog, 20 vehicles collided at both locations. The occupants of one car that crashed into another suffered injuries. Most of them were sent home from hospital after receiving first aid,” said Arvind Verma, the Ecotech-1 police station in-charge.
