Arunachal Woman killed as Train rams Car at Unmanned Crossing in Assam’s Jonai

Dibrugarh: A woman from Arunachal Pradesh lost her life, and another person sustained critical injuries on Friday afternoon, when a passenger train collided with a four-wheeler at an unmanned railway crossing at Dekapam, Jonai in Dhemaji district.The incident occurred around 2.10pm, when a vehicle attempted to cross the railway track at the Dekapam Deka-Shantipur unmanned crossing at the same time as the Ledo–Murkongselek DEMU express train was approaching at speed. The train struck the vehicle with enormous force, dragging it for nearly 400 metres along the track. The impact left the vehicle completely mangled.According to officials, the woman who died in the accident has been identified as Rupa Riba (45), a resident of Arunachal. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot. The driver of the vehicle sustained critical injuries in the collision and was initially rushed to a nearby medical facility. Given the severity of the injuries, the victim was subsequently referred to Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment.Police rushed to the accident site and launched an inquiry into the incident. A bulldozer was deployed to remove the mangled wreckage of the vehicle from the railway track so that train operations on the Ledo-Murkongselek line could resume.The body of the deceased was handed over to her family members following necessary formalities.
