Assam drivers’ union calls off June 10 protest

Guwahati: The Assam State Drivers Union has called off its proposed protest, scheduled for June 10, citing attempts by certain individuals to create confusion and division within the driver community.

The protest, which was scheduled to be held outside the office of the transport commissioner, was planned to highlight various issues concerning the rights and welfare of drivers across the state. “The agitation was aimed at drawing the attention of the authorities to long-standing grievances faced by commercial drivers and seeking appropriate measures to address them,” said the union’s president Dhrubaraj Axom.

While the proposed protest was called off, he assured that the fight has not been abandoned and that a new programme would be organised later this month.
