Silchar: Assam University, Silchar, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thailand's Surindra Rajabhat University to promote joint research, faculty and student exchange, and broader academic collaboration between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of an international conference on "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology: Crisis Management and Security Enhancement for Border Communities" organised by the Thai university. The conference brought together academicians, researchers, policymakers and experts from 18 universities across several countries.
Assam University was represented by vice-chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant and associate professor of the department of business administration, Deepjyoti Choudhury.
Addressing the plenary session, Pant spoke on the role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in crisis management and border security. He highlighted challenges such as geographical isolation, cross-border crimes, migration-related risks, administrative complexities and digital security threats.
Drawing examples from the India-Bangladesh and Thailand-Myanmar borders, as well as European border management systems, he underscored the growing importance of AI-driven predictive analytics and digital surveillance tools in strengthening security and crisis response mechanisms.
In a separate technical session, Choudhury discussed war and crisis management in the digital era. He focused on emerging challenges, including cybercrime, data breaches, disinformation campaigns, AI-generated misleading content and technology-driven global conflicts. He also stressed the need for stronger cybersecurity awareness, ethical use of technology and greater international cooperation.
University officials said the partnership is expected to facilitate international academic programmes, collaborative research projects and cultural exchanges, while providing students and faculty members with greater global exposure.
Both institutions expressed confidence that the MoU would strengthen educational and cultural ties between India and Thailand and open new avenues for academic cooperation in the years ahead.
