Saikia appointed as advocate general for another term
Guwahati: Senior advocate Devajit Saikia has been appointed as advocate general of the state for another term of five years. This was announced by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in a post-cabinet meeting briefing on Wednesday.
Saikia will hold the position of the advocate general for the second consecutive term. He held the position in the last term of the Sarma-led govt. He stepped down from the post on May 6, following the end of the tenure of the previous govt. He became the youngest advocate general of Assam in May 2021 and served a full five-year term before his reappointment.
In addition to his role as the state’s advocate general, he also holds the post of secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and served as the secretary of the Assam Cricket Association.
